STAMFORD, Conn. (CBSNewYork) – Bar cars on Metro-North trains could be a thing of the past when the transit agency rolls out new rail cars.
As WCBS 880’s Sean Adams reported, bar cars are steeped in nostalgia, summoning images of the days before Prohibition.
They have a devoted following on the New Haven line, which is the last commuter rail in the country to offer cocktails in a special car.

As the New Haven line phases out old trains for the new M-8s, there’s fear this will be the end of the line for bar cars.
“When we moved to town, I got to know a lot of people within them. I live in New Canaan but I know a bunch of people around,” said one bar car regular.
